What we work on
- Reading fluency and comprehension. Reading accurately, then understanding what was read — the second does not automatically follow the first.
- Writing. Letter formation early on, then sentences, then structured short answers by Class 4 and 5.
- Number sense. Understanding what operations mean, not only how to perform them. This is what prevents trouble in Class 6 and beyond.
- Homework and school support. Getting work done properly and on time, without it becoming a nightly argument at home.
- Working habits. Sitting down to a task, finishing it, and checking it. For many families this turns out to be the most valuable part.
Why parents are the real audience here
At this age the child is not the one deciding to get a tutor, and is often not able to say clearly what they find difficult. So we keep the parent informed — what improved this month, what has not, and what to do between sessions. You should never be guessing whether tuition is working.
We do not promise marks at this stage, and we would be sceptical of anyone who does. What we can offer is honest reporting on where your child actually is against what the class expects.
Home rather than online
For Classes 1 to 5 we generally recommend home tuition. Young children concentrate better with someone present, handwriting needs physical correction, and the session is easier to keep on track. Online is possible for Classes 4 and 5 where scheduling makes it necessary, but it is the exception rather than what we would suggest first.
Questions parents ask
Is Class 1 too early for tuition?
Often, yes. If a child is coping, extra formal instruction may add pressure without adding much. Tuition is worth it at this age when there is a specific difficulty — reading is not developing, or the child is falling behind the class — rather than as a default.
How long is a session?
Shorter than for older students. Young children do not concentrate productively for long stretches, and a focused shorter session beats a long unfocused one.
Do you help with school projects?
We help the child do them. We do not do them for the child, which defeats the purpose and is usually obvious to the teacher anyway.
