What a Class 1 to 5 Home Tutor in Dwarka Should Actually Cover
Primary tuition is easy to get wrong in a way that is hard to notice for a year. Here is what a tutor at this stage should be working on, and how to tell whether it is happening.

A good Class 1 to 5 tutor is not primarily teaching the syllabus — the school is already doing that. They are building the three things the syllabus assumes: reading fluency, number sense, and the habit of sitting down and finishing work properly. If a primary tutor is only supervising homework, you are paying for a babysitter with a textbook.
The three foundations that actually matter
1. Reading fluency, then comprehension
These are separate skills and they arrive separately. A child can read a passage aloud accurately and still not be able to tell you what happened in it. By Class 4, comprehension is what most written work is silently testing, and a child who reads accurately but shallowly starts losing marks across every subject at once — including Maths word problems.
2. Number sense, not table memorisation
A child who has memorised tables but does not understand what multiplication represents is fine until the questions stop being straightforward. A child who understands the operation can rebuild a forgotten fact. Ask your tutor how they would explain why a particular method works, not just whether your child got the answer.
3. Working habits
Starting a task without being asked three times. Finishing it. Checking it. Writing legibly enough that the answer can be read. This sounds like the least academic item on the list and is frequently the one that changes a child's results most.

Questions worth asking a prospective tutor
- What will you do in the first two sessions? The answer should involve finding out where the child actually is, not starting at chapter one.
- How will I know if this is working? You should get specific observations, not "she is doing well".
- What should we do between sessions? Ten focused minutes a day at home is worth more than an extra weekly session.
- What will you not do? A tutor who completes the child's project or homework for them is creating a problem, not solving one.
On promises: be wary of anyone guaranteeing marks or ranks for a seven-year-old. At this stage honest reporting on where your child stands is worth far more than a target.
Home or online at this age?
For Classes 1 to 5 we generally recommend home tuition. Young children concentrate better with someone in the room, handwriting needs physical correction, and sessions stay on track more easily. Online can work for Classes 4 and 5 where scheduling demands it, but it would not be our first suggestion.

Does my Class 2 child really need a tutor?
Often not. If the child is coping, extra formal instruction can add pressure without adding much. Tuition earns its place at this age when there is a specific difficulty - reading is not developing, or the child is visibly behind the class - rather than as a default.
How long should a primary session be?
Shorter than for older children. Young students do not concentrate productively for long stretches, and a focused shorter session beats a long unfocused one every time.
My child does well in tests but cannot explain anything. Is that a problem?
At Class 4 or 5, yes, it is worth addressing. It usually means they have learned to pattern-match questions rather than understand the material, and that strategy stops working around Class 6 to 7.
